Description:
The VIP-844-BC "MegaCast"™
PS2 Keyboard Multiplier / Multicaster routes the output of a
single PS/2 keyboard, to as many as four PCs simultaneously.
In addition, the VIP-844-BC MegaCast™ may be cascaded to
accommodate as many as 16 PCs. It is idealy suited for applications
requiring redundant keyboard input, such as the testing and administration
of multiple PCs, and for multiboxing applications for MMORPG's
such as World of Warcraft. The VIP-844-BC PS2 Keyboard Multiplier
/ Multicaster is compact, easy to install, and supports all popular
PS/2 keyboards.
The unique architecture of the VIP-844-BC MegaCast™ provides
a dedicated microprocessor for each PC. This feature makes it
possible to "hot-plug" the keyboard at any time, and
power the connected PCs up and down, in any order. At the heart
of the MegaCast™ is Vetra's advanced keyboard emulation
technology which provides error free boot up and driver loading
for each connected PC, and allows the MegaCast™ to operate
transparently with all IBM
compatible PCs, PC operating systems, and applications. The VIP-844-BC
MegaCast™ PS2 Keyboard Multiplier / Multicaster is powered
by the connected PCs so no external power supply is required.
For applications requiring rack mounting, an optional 2U height
rack mount tray is available (see Accessories
).

OPERATION:
After all connections are made
and the PCs are powered up, the front panel power indicator will
illuminate indicating that the unit is ready to transmit keyboard
data. Any keystroke from the connected keyboard will be routed
to PS/2 keyboard ports of all the connected PCs simultaneously.
All shifted keyboard functions will work properly, however, due
to design constraints, keyboard back link commands issued from
the PC are not passed to the connected keyboard. What this means
is that if you set the CAPS LOCK button on your keyboard, the
keyboard will generate shifted (capital) characters, but the
CAPS LOCK indicator LED on the connected keyboard will not be
illuminated.
Each output from the VIP-844-BC that the keyboard is connected
to, can feed the input of another VIP-844-BC. In this manner,
a maximum of 16 PCs can receive keyboard data from the connected
keyboard. |
